National Dog Day! Cake and A Picnic!

August 26th was national dog day.  I wanted to take the dogs and do something fun, but it was 95F and humid, so I baked them a cake instead.

And then we had a picnic!

This was my cake recipe: 1 can of green tripe, 1/2 cup of garbanzo bean flour, 2 eggs, 1/4 cup of almond milk.  Mixed it all up and baked it for 40 mins.
Then I 'frosted' it with peanut butter and added some peanut butter chips to the top.  I tried to make it spell D-O-G.

Then we went outside and the dogs had their cake and ate it too!

Ok there are a lot of pictures, but peanut butter + cute puppies = adorable!

One Year, What A Change

This day last year, I was meeting Dhali for the very first time at a puppy open house.  He was 4 weeks old and adorable :)

I can't believe he was that small!

Fast forward ONE year and Dhali attended his very first seminar.  It was at Loretta's and it was fun :)

We were auditors, so mostly Dhali just hung out in his crate.  But he did a really excellent job of just being.  That is a tough skill!

He didn't make a peep when I left him to walk a course.  He whined a little bit when there were other dogs barking.  He also whined a little bit and barked once (!) at the end of the day.  I know what his problem was though - he needed to go potty!  And he was refusing to go.  Still an issue with the strange location pottying.

But other than the potty issues he was a rock star.  I don't think he could have handled working in that environment - YET, but I was really itching to try the exercises out :P

He did a lot of this....

And some of this...

At the very end of the day I brought out his mat and let him play on that.  He did a good job, but his enormously full bladder was distracting him a little bit.  It's frustrating to know that if he just would pee he would feel so much better LOL!!
He was great at looking at and then ignoring the dogs working on course.  He was like "yeah, whatever I have mat, I have cheese and hot dogs - don't care about boring dogs."

I love this picture - wink?

My shoes drying off in front of the fan.  My feet were so wet the entire day.  It rained a lot last night, so we were in the barn for the seminar, but my feet got soaked hauling our stuff from the car to the barn.

I really liked having the seminar in the barn!  It was nice and cool - I was even cold!  The dogs didn't run off too much, because we were in the barn.  The sun didn't blind me and I didn't get a sunburn.  All around I enjoyed this year's seminar much better than last year.  It was so relaxing to have Dhali with me.  Last year was stressful with Tibby.

And I learned a lot too!  I took lots of notes.  I can't wait to play with one jump :)

P.S. I ate a hamburger for the first time in over 15 years.  AND it was grilled by a world agility champion :D LOL!!!!  It was a tasty hamburger.  I couldn't remember what they tasted like, but now I know!

Dog Treats

I added some new dog treats to our little Etsy shop.  Dhali and Tibby are the official taste testers.  They tell me if it's a good recipe or not.  Tibby knows exactly what she likes.  She's picky.
They are, of course, all grain free and I don't add any sugars, salts or preservatives.  The dogs think they are yummy!  I have sold some and other dogs seem to love them too!

This is the link to our store - if you want to see Dhali and Tibby's 'official taste tester' pictures.  They are always the last / fifth picture.  Khyi - Kiyi  You may have to scroll down or go to the 2nd page.  Things move around when someone buys something.

Brag Stick - Craft Tutorial With Mod Podge

We are now the 2 Little Cavalier's crafter's for 2013 - check out our post here at 2 Little Cavalier's .
You can see our picture if you scroll all the way to the bottom.
We will be doing LOTS of pet crafts in 2013!!!  Yay!

Brag Sticks!  Photo Key Chains with your pet’s picture.  This is a fun little craft that is easy to make and upcycles old credit cards.
Materials:
Mod Podge Hard Coat - $7
Old credit cards – free
Scrapbook paper – 15 cents to $1.50
Preview photo page from  an order of pictures or
Print out pictures on your printer – a few cents or free
Scissors
Hole punch
Paint brush
Key chain ring – price varies (could be free)
Extra: different shaped paper hole punches
Directions:

Cut your old credit cards in half, either two long strips or two rectangles.  I found that the strips were easier to make and looked better on a key chain.

Next using your hole punch, punch out a hole near the top of your credit card strip.  Not too close to the edge! Or your brag stick might break and fall off of your key chain.

Next cut a piece of scrapbook paper that is big enough to wrap around your credit card strip.  Make sure your paper is big enough to completely wrap your plastic card.  Paste your paper to the card, using the Mod Podge.  Mark the location of your punch hole or even punch a hole through the paper, before you Mod Podge it onto the plastic.
Let your paper dry onto the plastic.

After your paper is dry and stuck to the plastic, you can now add your first coat to the outside of your brag stick.  You have not added any pictures or embellishments!  This first coat is just to seal the paper and make a nice smooth canvas for your photos.  I used my fingers to smoosh the Mod Podge onto the paper, but you can also use a brush.  Smooth the edges of the paper and firmly press them onto the plastic card as you spread the Mod Podge.
Let your paper dry until it is no longer white – 20-30 mins.

Now the fun begins!  Add your pictures and embellishments!  You will want to do this is layers – see pictures.  First add photos, then words and finally decorations like paper cutouts or even gems.   I added my name and contact information to one side.  If I lose my keys, hopefully someone will return them!

Each layer will need: Use Mod Podge to glue embellishment to brag stick, then cover with a layer of Mod Podge, finally let dry until no longer white.   Do this with every layer of embellishments.

After you have added all your embellishments you can begin your protective layer coats.  There should be at least three of these coats for the best durability.  Spread Mod Podge over both sides of your brag stick and let dry.  I used a chop stick to hang the sticks up, so they could dry without smudging.  Repeat three times.
After the final coat, let your sticks dry at least 24 hours or 72 hours for the best protection of your project.
Attach your stick to a key ring .
Project done!

I love these sticks, because they are so cute and easy to personalize.  They could be used for gift tags or luggage tags as well.  They are perfect for showing off your little babies – most people have their keys with them all the time.  I just showed mine off at the dentist’s office!  Everyone thought they were so cute and wanted one of their own!
Have fun making your brag stick!

Something Sad

About 20 mins. ago I saw a post on FB from a friend of a friend that her dog had just given birth to 3 puppies.  This is sad.
This dog is barely a year old.
It is a papillon/bichon cross that her family paid a huge amount for from a pet store.
She bred it to the neighbor's dog - a Heinz 57 dog.  Not an accidental breeding - she has been talking about doing it since she bought her dog.
Neither dog has had their shots or goes to the vet or is regularly treated for parasites.
Breeding a dog is a HUGE responsibility.  After my experiences with Tibby and her poor breeding and all the issues that come with that.....it makes me very, very sad and also angry.
There are so many things that could go wrong with a litter of puppies - Parvo for one.  And dogs are STILL dying in my town from Parvo.  That is ridiculous.

I told this person all the reasons not to have a litter of puppies, but it didn't do any good!  Very sad.

Show Day 2 - Ruined

Didn't happen - boo!

So we were supposed to go back today for a 2nd day of showing and then it started to snow late Sat. night and it is still snowing more than 12 hours later.

The people that stayed in the hotel connected to the show site - smart.  Me?  I decided to drive the hour home.  Tibby was at home any way and some one has to take care of her too!

So now we are stuck in the house.  Very sad.  Tibetan Terriers were supposed to show at 2pm - the city finally had one side of the road plowed in front of my house by 1:50pm.  So yeah.  Oh, well it has been an OK day.  Just sad that we missed the 2nd day of the show.  So far we have played in the snow a lot, I have cleaned up tons of snow from the floor and then we took a nap.

The dogs are having fun, except there is too much snow even for my snow-loving pups.  They can't even run, because it's too deep!  I made them a little path and a potty spot.  They need some snow pants!

8am

Tibby says, "I changed my mind!  Let me back in!"

Dhali's first snow face - awwww.

10am

Snow monster!

"I can't see!"

Snow ball armor.

"Where did my yard go?"

So it's almost 3pm now and the snow is coming down even harder.  It's looking like a blizzard!  Glad we are not out on the road, even though I'm sad we are missing the show.
