Dhali And His Owies

Dhali after his surgery!  He is feeling very good.  In fact I couldn't tell that he had had anything done at all!  He was full of spunkiness.

"I gotz a boo boo on my arm."

"Look At my BOO BOO!"

"See....owie."

This is a good use of his wave trick!  Again!  His most favorite trick in the world.  I do not even remember how I started teaching him that!
He's showing off the spot where they gave him his IV.  The vet wrap sort of matches his coat colors :)

Dhali jumping over Tibby.  The vet sent some paperwork home and one of the things they said was, "dogs might be quieter and sleep more."  Nope.  Back to normal Dhali.
EXCEPT.....

"These are GIRL clothes!"

He has to wear the PJs, because he wouldn't stop licking.  It's just a baby onesie - size 18 to 22 months, if you are looking for the right size.  When Tibby was spayed I went to the store a few times before I found the right size.  I had one left over from when Tibby wore them.  They came in packs of 3 and I used 2 for her - one clean and one being washed, because she leaked a bit from her incision site.  Another good thing about the onesie - keeps everything clean.  Dhali weighs 21.08 pounds - I have no idea how! because he is a little skinny chicken, but that's what the paperwork says.

Once I put the onesie on him Dhali mostly stopped licking.  He licked his legs a little bit, but I don't care about that!  I just don't want the other spot to open up.  It has glue and doesn't have stitches, so that is also nicer than when Tibby had her spay.  Except if it opens.  Then not nice!

Isn't he adorable in his little PJs?!?

They told me to only leash walk him, BUT Dhali thinks me + leash = playtime exciting! Jumping around like crazy!  If I just let him out by himself he walks slowly and goes potty minus the crazy dancing.

Now did Tibby miss Dhali while he was gone?
"Who is this 'Dhali' you speak of?"

No she did not miss him.
The first thing she did when I came home without him - grab a bully stick and have a nice long roll on it.  She hasn't been able to do that in a long time, because Dhali always stops her - "That's not what bully sticks are for!!".  So yeah she didn't miss him.  She even wanted to play tug with me - when he wasn't around......but I missed him a ton!  So too bad princess!  He'll be here for a long time.

The spot where his tooth was taken out looks extra gross.  He hasn't let me look really close at it, but there seem to be 4 or 5 stitches?    It looks painful.  He woke me up this morning and I saw him itching at his face, so I gave him his pain meds and he stopped itching.  Now we just have to make it through these next few days!

And we went to a new vet.  I was sick of our old vet and ....I like the new one!  It might be a bit more expensive though.  The total for pre-surgery blood work, heartworm test, nerve block, the actual neuter, IV with IV fluids, dental xrays, dental extraction, pain meds = $400+

Nurse Tibby and Dhali The Kleenex Attacker

I have been sick for the last 4 days. sick, sick, sick.  I'm sick of being sick.  Never thought I would get tired of sleeping in and laying on the couch all day watching Netflix, but yeah....sick of being sick.

I also haven't had any voice for 4 days - it's starting to come back today, so the dogs have been getting used to a lot of silent hand signals.  Tibby has been a very good nurse, she sleeps on my chest and keeps me warm.  Although, maybe she's sleeping on me because I'm laying in her spot on the couch....

Dhali is good at making me keep alert.  He LOVES used Kleenex.  It has to be used.  Yuck.  I know.  If he hears me blow my nose, he comes running from any where in the house and dives with a open mouth full of teeth at my face.  He's trying to get the Kleenex, I know, but still it's scary to see that many teeth coming for your face.  So I have learned to do covert nose blowing and fast, then hide the Kleenex.

Tibby is also obsessed with used Kleenex, but she is sneakier.  I'll wake up to find a fluffy dog laying across my chest and picking my pockets for used Kleenex (where I have hidden them from Dhali).

I will admit in my feverish haze the Kleenex stealing does make me feel a little bit like a celebrity.

Teeth and Only Teeth

Dhali's mouth is crazy right now.  His big canines are growing in and his baby teeth are not falling out!  They refuse to go!  I know that at least one of his back teeth has fallen out, because I stepped on it.  OUCH!  Very sharp.  3 prongs - stuck into my foot.  Ow.

I was complaining about his sharp little canines and now he not only has them he has added 4 more.  omg.  It has to hurt -right?  He doesn't seem to act any different.  Tugs and plays the same.

Cheese!

He also has ONE itty bitty baby tooth in the front that is still hanging on.  Can you see it?  It's a little snaggle tooth on the bottom row, right side.  Right next to his lovely SETS of canines.

And here are Tibby's teeth, just for fun.

Cheese!

Errrr!

Snip! Snap!  Big Teeth!

Smile!

Fortune Cookie wisdom for the day : "If you want people to like you, like yourself first."

Another thing dogs don't have a problem doing.  They don't even think about liking themselves - they just do it!  And until given a reason, they like everyone else.

Except of course, if you are a man and then Tibby doesn't like you no matter what LOL!

Be Yourself

Fortune Cookie wisdom for the day: "The best thing you can do is get good at being you."

Dogs don't seem to have trouble doing that!

Fish, Control and Turns

I started reading Control Unleashed Puppy this last week.  So much good information.  I haven't finished reading it, but I started working on mat work and the whiplash turn.  Dhali gets things really fast.  Tibby needs to think a lot more.  It's exactly the book that I needed for Tibby.  If I can figure out how to teach it to Tibby it would be wonderful.  I'm very curious to see if i can teach her to breath and blink on command.  :)  Sounds kind of hard, but useful.

P.S. Dhali ripped the cover off within the first 5 mins.  I was going to sit outside in a chair and he jumped up and grabbed the book.  I saved the rest of the book, but the cover was in 3 pieces.  It looks kind of rough now!

She has been a lot more eager to have her training session.  When it's Dhali's turn she goes into the bed room and gets up on the bed, but if I don't call her for her turn, she acts very put out and goes into the living room and looks at the training stuff.  I'm not sure why she doesn't want to watch Dhali when it's his turn.  They only get 3 mins. each, so it's not a huge amount of time to wait!

On Thurs. I stopped giving her the medication the vet prescribed.  Tibby misses her cheese, but otherwise I didn't see any difference in her behavior.  The whole week she has been acting more playful and happy - without the tiny, tiny dose of pain meds she was still happy and playful.  I looked up the dosage for a dog Tibby's size and she was taking 1/2 of the lowest recommended dose.

Dhali modeling the most popular toy.

This is THE toy of the moment.  Tibby even tugs with Dhali for this toy.  She also chased after it and jumped on me to get it.  It has a rattle AND a squeaker.  Whoa!

Dhali would like to show you his smile.  Soon (very soon) to be replaced with new chompers.  He has been chewing on EVERYTHING.  I give him frozen smelt to chew on.  He likes them a lot and they keep him busy for a few mins. too.  Tibby thinks they're gross.  I really want to get a picture when he has a little fishy tail hanging out of his mouth.  It is SO CUTE!

"Iz cute....now throwza toy."

Brush Your Teeth!

Tibby likes the toothbrush, but really she's a big girl and she can do it herself ;)

Canines

Daily Dog Challenge
Tongue 11/7
This was such a hard photo to get!!!  It's very cold here, so Tibby doesn't stick out her tongue very often.
