Tibby got to review these yummy treats from Chewy.com. Why should Dhali get to do all the treat testing??
Question #1: "So Tibby how to you like these Natural Balance Jerky Bars from Chewy.com?
Tibby: "They taste really good. I will even sit up to get one and I don't do that for every treat. I like the chicken part and the sweet potato part. Give me another one or this interview is over."
Question #2: "Is there anything you would change about these treats?"
Tibby: "Yes, I hate the plastic bag. It makes a scary noise and ruins my appetite. Take the treats out of that dangerous bag, give me the treats and then throw that scary bag away. Really! That bag is freaking me out! No, I don't want to sit next to it. Ok, I'm counting to 3 and then that bag had better be gone."
"I'm not getting rid of the bag. Question 3?"
"Fine. I need 2 treats to steady my nerves."
Question #3: What do you think of the size, shape and texture of these treats?"
Tibby: "Well, they could be bigger. You keep breaking them into tiny pieces. I'm not dumb - hello! I can see how big they are in the bag. Texture? Um, let me try a normal size one and I'll let you know if there is a texture. Shape is good - it fits in my mouth."
Question #4: "Any finally thoughts?"
Tibby: Yeah, I'm tired of talking to you and laying next to this scary plastic bag. Am I getting paid in treats for this interview? I want to renegotiate my contract!"
Dhali gets to review the next treats - he's not such a DIVA!
I added some new dog treats to our little Etsy shop. Dhali and Tibby are the official taste testers. They tell me if it's a good recipe or not. Tibby knows exactly what she likes. She's picky.
They are, of course, all grain free and I don't add any sugars, salts or preservatives. The dogs think they are yummy! I have sold some and other dogs seem to love them too!
This is the link to our store - if you want to see Dhali and Tibby's 'official taste tester' pictures. They are always the last / fifth picture. Khyi - Kiyi You may have to scroll down or go to the 2nd page. Things move around when someone buys something.
Dhali and Tibby are exhausted from all the supervising they have been doing. What have we been up to? Well, check out our little shop KhyiKiyi or read/see pictures of my projects here Dust Bath.
I should even have some grain-free dog biscuits in the shop by tomorrow! They are cooling right now and the dogs are begging to be taste testers LOL!
Here is a video of Dhali's first few training sessions. He also has a cute hand touch developing. A couple days ago I noticed he was sitting to get a treat. He must have seen Tibby doing that! I didn't teach it to him. My favorite part is when we are playing. Tonight we were playing and he launched himself at my chin....and held on! Owww! I have a serious bruise developing on my arm from yesterday too. He does everything at full speed. Funny little guy :).
The one thing I do not understand - when there are 2 identical tracheas - WHY does he insist on trying to take Tibby's!?!? She puts up with it for a while, but tonight she told him that she didn't want to play any more and it was her's, so get lost. So he laid next to her bed and barked at her! I put him in the living room with me (gate between them) and he still is running around the living room trying to get Tibby's trachea (treat LOL!). He has his own! And he has a high pitched bark....ooo boy..
There are so many cute Dhali moments, but it's hard to remember them all! On Fri. we went out to the cabin and he was playing with me in the yard. A few mins. later I called him and he came running and JUMPED into my arms. So cute!.
He started digging a hole outside today and was having a lot of fun with that....and eating dirt..
He's Really getting good at hearing his name and coming to it. So far he's come every single time. If he hears his name he whips around and looks for his treat..
Now he's stopped barking and is just laying by Tibby's bed, head on paws, watching her eat her treat. Oh, she just got up and BAM! Dhali stole the trachea! Now he's on the bed eating the trachea....awww he's so happy now LOL! Why he wants a half chewed trachea and not his perfectly new one is a mystery!
It's really, really hot here. Keeping Tibby occupied when it's hot outside is easy - keep the AC on and the couch nice and comfy. Keeping Ellie busy in the heat is another thing. She has a lot of energy. It's too hot for her to spend more than 5-10 mins outside - she runs full speed the entire time when she is outside. When I make her come inside she is panting so hard that her crate shakes.
So how do I keep her happy? Well, in the morning when it's cooler I take her breakfast outside and make a trail in the grass. I keep the trail in the shadiest area, so she doesn't overheat - even in the morning it's HOT! This keeps her busy sniffing out each and every tiny kibble, but she isn't running around crazy, so she can stay outside longer.
When it's time to come back inside (and go back into the crate), I give her a big fat bully stick and fill the Busy Dog Ball with little pieces of dried beef. She works and works for HOURS to get the treats out of the Busy Dog Ball. When she is exhausted from smacking the ball around her crate, she settles down to chew on the bully stick or (maybe) take a nap.
She gets quite the work out from the Busy Dog Ball! She will be panting after a while and it tires her out. It works her brain and her body.
Before this I wasn't too impressed with the Busy Ball, because it doesn't come apart for cleaning and it seemed to be VERY easy for Tibby to get the treats out of it. You can't adjust the difficulty level - for the treats to fall out - and Tibby is an expert at getting treats out of treat balls. However, it does come with a money back guarantee if the ball ever breaks due to a dog playing with it. Good thing! Because Ellie isn't exactly gentle with the toys!
It seems to be hard enough for Ellie. She's in her crate which makes it harder to get the treats out and she likes to play with it - ALL the time.
So far I have let her have all different types of toys and she loves them all AND she will tug with ANYTHING. ANYTHING. Hard toys, soft toys, things that are not toys. Her favorite right now is a soft bumper toy, but she is happy to switch to a different toy. When she goes outside she plays with ALL the toys. First with one, then another, back to the first one, then to a new one.....
She also has a lot of prey drive. She will chase dandelion fuzz and balls of her own fur across the yard. Anything that moves - she wants it.
And she's back to playing with the Busy Ball......I'll let you imagine what it sounds like, plastic vs. metal and a determined border collie!
She thought the package smelled amazing! And she had fun pulling each package out of the box and giving them each a good sniff.
Then she started stealing the packages and running away! They smelled SO GOOD! Sorry the pictures are blurry - Tibby was moving fast! When I took pictures of each treat she wouldn't leave me alone, they smelled so tasty and she wanted to get closer to them.
These are the Albacore Tuna and Green Lip Mussel treats.
Jump Your Bones Pet Treats have no added salt, sugar, coloring, binding agents, MSG, flavorings or preservatives. They are what they say they are - no added ingredients necessary!
These are the roo bites and the lamb puffs. Jump Your Bones Pet Treats uses an exclusive DSA dehydration process that uses a low temperature and low humidity. This process allows the product to retain its natural aroma. Hence, the reason why Tibby thought they smelled AMAZING! Also, Jump Your Bones Pet Treats are virtually FAT FREE, because of the process used to dry them. Their web site is pretty neat, it shows the whole drying process. Very state of the art! Because of the DSA dehydration process the treats retain the same natural enzymes and nutritional value as the fresh product.
Tibby might not be the fastest or most desperate to please, but she isn't a dummy. Last night I was cutting up some vegetables in the kitchen. I had the door underneath the kitchen sink open, so I could throw the peelings away easily. My back was to the open cupboard door and I didn't even know Tibby was in the kitchen. I thought she was in her crate in the living room chewing on a bully stick. No. Tibby was watching me.
Bang! I heard the cupboard door slam shut behind me. I turned around to see Tibby sitting by the door waiting for her treat. She did it over and over again. If there was any door left open in the kitchen she closed it, without any direction from me. I was so surprised!
She may be a non-sporting dog, but that doesn't mean she isn't a working dog!
We went to our first flyball practice tonight. It was fun. Interesting. Loud. LOL! That is the first thing everyone said when they met us, "Oh, it's your first time? Well, it's LOUD!" I think Tibby had a nice time. We took little breaks to go outside and walk around. She was eager to get back inside, so I think she must have liked it.....even though it was LOUD! I think I may have lost a little bit of my hearing AND I already have poor hearing! If/when we go next time I will bring earplugs. 2+ hours in there was a little too much LOUD. It was fun though.

I don't think we will become serious flyball players, but it would be fun to do every once in a while. With Tibby's heart condition, I'm not sure if it is a good idea for her to be SO excited for such a long period of time. With agility we can run for a minute and then she can rest and her heart rate goes down. Tonight her heart rate was super, super fast the entire time, so over 2 hours. I think she would eventually get used to it, but it still seems like it might be hard on her heart. Still, I think we will do it again. It was exciting to watch!
~
She would, of course, have to learn how to retrieve. And how to retrieve under pressure. Tibby can retrieve. I taught it as a trick, but she doesn't think it's very much fun. However, she will do it if I want her too. The things I liked about flyball that we could use for agility - 1 working around other dogs and still focusing on the job 2 - retrieving a ball. Tibby loves her ball, but it would be nice if she would bring it back. 3 - Fast jumping 4 - Did I mention working around other dogs and people? Very important. And something we have had trouble with in the past.

IF YOU ONLY WATCH ONE VIDEO - PLEASE WATCH THE 2ND ONE - TIBBY IS REALLY FAST!!
The first time (in the first video) Tibby ran away from me every single time. They eventually had every one leave the room, but she still ran away from me. I think she was trying to get out of the door. The noise, the new building and all the dogs barking was a little overwhelming for her. Also, I didn't have a very good reward for her. As Loretta always tells me - If Tibby is running away then the reward isn't good enough!!
~
After they trained all the beginner dogs (which I didn't get to see, because they had us sit in another room) they had the more advanced beg. dogs run and then the team ran. Whoa! They were fast! It was fun to watch!
The last video is Tibby watching the other dogs running. The other new dog is in the video too - behind Tibby, it's brown and white. I thought it was funny, because for the first time ever Tibby wasn't the loud dog barking. In fact, she was pretty quiet the entire night. At the very end she felt comfortable enough to start barking.

There were a LOT of Tollers, a couple labs, a LOT of border collies, a chihuahua, a Welsh terrier, a jack russel terrier and some other ones maybe. There were a lot of dogs and I missed some when I was taking Tibby outside a couple times.
~
Then they did the new dogs again. The other beginning dog had left, so it was just Tibby. She did great! I had cheese and that was DEFINITELY rewarding enough for her. She was a monster trying to eat the cheese. She was fast and did a great job jumping. She also did fine putting her legs up on the box and pushing off. She was very focused on me and the cheese. Good girl!
I thought Tibby would like dried fish skins as a treat, because she likes to eat her nightly fish oil capsule. Actually she likes to crunch her fish oil capsule and get all the fishy taste in her mouth.
I saw this game on another bloggers post Champion of My Heart Treibball Basics and the video of the dogs at the Winter Treibball Games. So that is what it is supposed to look like and here is how Tibby did with the game. For the first one I was using sour cream and onion chips which apparently outrank turkey ham, which I used in the 2nd video. She was eager to get the chips, but ho hum about the ham. Funny girl.
They are obviously magical. Tibby learned how to weave through my legs in 5 mins. One hot dog. Catty also thinks they are pretty stinkin tasty too.
Me? Nice that they taught Tibby, but they are smelly, slimy and gross. But for my baby I will buy, slice and touch those gross wieners.
Still awesome though too.
Independent, curious, highly intelligent, clever, mischievous, precocious, strong-minded, playful. Collected from various sources:
1 -Stubbornness. Tibetan Terriers have an independent mind of their own and can be stubborn and manipulative. You must show them, through absolute consistency, that you mean what you say.
2-Suspiciousness or timidity when not socialized enough.
3-"Separation anxiety" (destructiveness and barking) when left alone too much.
4-Lively and playful at times, yet also calm and low-key.
5-Makes a good watchdog but is not aggressive with people.
6-Most are amiable with other animals, though perhaps a bit bossy.
7- The Tibetan Terrier is very stubborn in general and must be shown from Day One that you are in control.
8-An athletic and agile sure-footed climber, and a clever problem-solver who often uses his paws with great adeptness to open doors and hold toys.
9- 1/3 Dog + 1/3 Cat + 1/3 Teenager = 1 Tibetan Terrier
10-Tibetan Terriers are family-oriented: they love to play games and participate in activities with their people.
Patience and a sense of humor are musts for the people of a Tibetan Terrier.
