Week 1 Foundations Progress

These videos probably are only interesting to me, but here is our progress in the last 7 days since our first agility foundations class last Monday.
The last video is REALLY funny.  If you don't watch any of the other ones you should watch the last one - it is CRAZY!  Ok I am the crazy one in the video.  It's Tibby's favorite game: Crazy Touch!
Anyway, our progress has been (I think) really good.  The videos helped me a lot.  I thought Tibby was only doing a nose touch on the contact, but in the video I could see that she is putting her paw on it.  Although, most of the time she thinks I'm an idiot.  You can even hear her sigh at one point, like, "Hey I just did that!  Why do I have to do it again?!?"  Even though you can't see it in the videos (I couldn't figure out the right angle) I'm trying to not give her any body signals.

These are just some tricks.  I forgot to do back up or weave.

Crazy Touch! You can tell Tibby is getting tired, but she still plays with me.  Good puppy!

I wanted to add that this is at my parents house. I thought it would be a good idea to try our training in a new place before class.

These pups probably wonder what the heck we are doing. hehe. teaching agility is so much fun and to watch them learn all of these things is just amazing. Nice job on touch! :)

Nice job! A lot of dogs touch and nose the target at the same time in the beginning. And honestly it's not that big of a deal unless you plan on having a nose touch after the contacts. For most agility purposes the dog just needs to go to it! Personally I start treating on the target after the initial shaping where I toss the treat. I want the dog stay out there (for agility and obedience) so putting the treat on it keeps the dog out there waiting for me to come to them rather than them to me.

and another suggestion, might as well call her spins left and right! If you ever decide to teach her directionals it will save some time :)

She is such a cutie and you're dong a great job!

Laura - Thanks fo the tips! Our class was canceled tonight, so I have another week to perfect the target. I would like her to lie down on the target. I'll try to work on bringing the treat to her - I hadn't thought about that, but it makes sense! We are also going to start working on our trick for class. I decided to do "frisk 'em" or also called "trouble with the law". It looks cute!
