11 Weeks Old and At the Farmer's Market

We went to the farmer's market again and my Mom and Dad went with us. It was fun! Dhali didn't want to be carried very much, so he bounced and hopped around on the end of his leash. He is SO SILLY! And cute! I wish I had a video of it, because it was very funny. He looked like he was dancing. Everyone loves him and wants to know what breed he is and if he will get bigger. We met a woman in a wheelchair with a 'therapy dog' that "is friendly! and just wants to say hi!". Yeah, friendly dogs don't usually growl???

He ate treats and was very attentive to get those treats LOL! He ate some treats from a few different people. He's so cute. But he gets into everything! Very interested in everything. He thought a rolling box/suitcase thing was so crazy - he wanted to chase it and he did a little jig when it went past and he couldn't reach it. Not scared of anything so far...

I played with him next to the parking lot at the farmer's market. We had played a bunch already, but he still wanted to play. He LOVES to run. He wasn't that interested in the toy, but he wanted to chase me, bite me, jump on me and bite/tug on my pants.

Dhali Rides A Skateboard

This video is a few days old now, but on Monday Dhali learned how to skateboard! He's getting really good now. I just need to work on my treat delivery so he will stay on the skateboard and continue to push. He does stay on and will push for 3-4 feet, but stops when the treats fall on the floor! I'll have to get another video soon. Very cute! The only reason I taught him this was due to my cold, so it was good for something! I was feeling really rotten and Dhali wanted to do something!!! (bark, bark, bark), so I got out the skateboard. I wasn't expecting anything, but first try I got a puppy riding a skateboard! Now Dhali is getting very clicker savy - yesterday we started front paws on a ball/balancing. He saw the ball, looked at me and plopped his paw on the ball - click! This morning he progressed to me not holding the ball still and him trying to balance on the ball with 2 feet.

Nothing Wrong With Feelings

For anyone that was worried: I don't think there is anything wrong with Tibby. Except that she is the most SENSITIVE dog in the world.

I have been trying to teach Dhali to leave Catty alone, so when he goes to bite and tug on her ears I say, "Hey!" That's it. Not even in a loud or mean way. Tibby goes soft and crawls belly on the ground, trys to lick my face - super sensitive baby trying to appease the mean, 'angry' owner. Seriously, you would think I beat her. Which I don't!!! I don't even say 'no' to her, because she doesn't do anything wrong!

She is also very, very smart. Yesterday, I was trying to teach Dhali to bring back a toy. It's a crackle bottle in a sock. Tibby is VERY afraid of it and runs away when Dhali carries it around in her mouth. Apparently my, "Bring it back, get the toy!!!, get the toy!!, get the toy!!, get the toy!" was annoying her. She got up from her bed, walked over to the toy, put a paw on the toy and waited until Dhali got the message and picked up the toy to bring it to me. Smart dog. Scary smart. She is also showing me that she knows how to do all the tricks that I'm teaching Dhali, but she makes it obvious that she will do them once to show him and then she's done. Ahh Tibby, too smart for me. >

Too Cute For

I have had a bad cold since Sunday. It should be against the law to be sick AND have a puppy! And I hardly ever get sick! I haven't been able to do much running around with Dhali, but I have had him playing with the flirt pole. He LOVES it so, so much. He's crazy for it. Even more than Ellie was. He's very fast too - for 11 weeks. Of course, his judgement isn't always quite right and he ends up head over tail when he tries to grab the lure :P>

I think Tibby is jealous of Dhali, when I play with him, but she doesn't know what to do about it. So I'll be sitting playing tug with Dhali and after a few minutes Tibby will slip under my arms and end up sprawled across my lap. Dhali keeps on playing and running crazy for the toy, so I guess it's OK. Tibby isn't interested in the toy or playing at all, she just wants to sit and get a cuddle. I wish they could talk :)>

Last week, before I got sick, I was running with Dhali and he bit me several times. Once was on the arm and MAN! it left a mark. It doesn't look too bad in the picture, but it turned purple, green and black. I can still see it and it's almost a week later! He has really sharp teeth.>

You will see that Dhali has a nice soft bed to sleep in. As long as he doesn't want to rip it up - he gets to keep it! Very cute to see him all curled up in it. Although, if he keeps growing at this rate he won't fit for very long! I measured him and he is about 12 inches tall at the withers. About, because he didn't really like the idea of standing still for me. Tibby is just under 16 inches, so he is really catching up on her! I knew he was getting taller!>

It's hard for me to know how to divide up his day. I want him to understand that he can and should relax when he is in the crate/x-pen, but I don't want him to spend a huge amount of time in there. So I bring him out for play with me, training/feeding and play with Tibby. In between those sessions he goes back into the x-pen. He did NOT want to settle tonight. Very loooong evening. I know he's getting enough exercise, but he can't be free all the time. For one thing he annoys Tibby and then she plays to rough with him. I don't want him to get hurt! How much time do your puppies spend playing with your other dog(s)?

Dhali's First Hike - Part One

This was Dhali's first hike! There are a TON of pictures, but I'm dividing it up into a few posts. Also, Blogger hates me again and is making it very difficult to post anything. Sorry if this looks weird! >

It was so beautiful yesterday - low humidity and cool, perfect weather. We HAD to go for a hike. Tibby hasn't been on a hike in such a long time - I felt bad about her getting Lyme's and the weather has been SO AWFUL for forever. Sweating buckets and ticks every where make me not want to go hiking - not sure why?! >

So I called Zoe's Mom up and we got the original hiking team back together! Tibby was SO excited. When she was me getting her harness and long line she was all focused on going with me no matter what. Dhali was like, "What are you so excited for?" :)>

So I planned on carrying Dhali for most of the time, but he was not having that at all. We took lots of rest breaks in the shade. A hike that normally takes us 40 mins. took 1 hour and 30, so we were walking very slowly. >

When we got home the pups both had baths - Dhali's first bath here and then after a short nap I took Dhali over to Zoe's Mom's house for a bonfire. I found 3 ticks on Tibby, zero on Dhali and one on the towel after they had both had a bath. None of the ticks on Tibby were attached, so that's great! >

Dhali was pretty good in the bath. He didn't scream, which I thought he might try to do (Tibby did for her first couple baths). He looked so sad and he tried really hard to escape, but by the end he was just standing on my feet (I stand in the bath with them, easier on my back!) looking like a wet squirrel. >

He had fun at the bonfire and got to meet a bunch of new people, a young (10 months?) yorkie, an old bichon and a kitten. Dhali thought the Yorkie was TOO crazy. Yeah, too crazy....I would have to agree. The kitten looked more like his speed, but the Yorkie was so over the top that he didn't get to play with any of them. He did get to sleep in his crate outside next to my chair (by the fire).....and then we forgot about him and he slept by himself (in his crate) when we went up on the deck! Sorry baby! He also went potty with out a problem in the yard again. Speaking of potty....Tibby had a very bad night. I gave her a raw meaty bone yesterday afternoon and it must have been too rich for her, because she had diarrehea ALL night long. And she didn't make it outside every time, so I was doing a lot of cleaning in the middle of the night. Poor little girl :( She feels fine now, though. Just made for a really long night.>

Dhali's First Training Video

Here is a video of Dhali's first few training sessions. He also has a cute hand touch developing. A couple days ago I noticed he was sitting to get a treat. He must have seen Tibby doing that! I didn't teach it to him. My favorite part is when we are playing. Tonight we were playing and he launched himself at my chin....and held on! Owww! I have a serious bruise developing on my arm from yesterday too. He does everything at full speed. Funny little guy :).

The one thing I do not understand - when there are 2 identical tracheas - WHY does he insist on trying to take Tibby's!?!? She puts up with it for a while, but tonight she told him that she didn't want to play any more and it was her's, so get lost. So he laid next to her bed and barked at her! I put him in the living room with me (gate between them) and he still is running around the living room trying to get Tibby's trachea (treat LOL!). He has his own! And he has a high pitched bark....ooo boy..

There are so many cute Dhali moments, but it's hard to remember them all! On Fri. we went out to the cabin and he was playing with me in the yard. A few mins. later I called him and he came running and JUMPED into my arms. So cute!.

He started digging a hole outside today and was having a lot of fun with that....and eating dirt..

He's Really getting good at hearing his name and coming to it. So far he's come every single time. If he hears his name he whips around and looks for his treat..

Now he's stopped barking and is just laying by Tibby's bed, head on paws, watching her eat her treat. Oh, she just got up and BAM! Dhali stole the trachea! Now he's on the bed eating the trachea....awww he's so happy now LOL! Why he wants a half chewed trachea and not his perfectly new one is a mystery!

You have no idea how difficult it was to get Dhali to hold still for those scans!  And Tibby is apparently too heavy for the scanner, so I could only get 2 of her feet at a time.  It was fun though.  Now Dhali and Tibby want to stand on the scanner all the time.

Yesterday I took Dhali to Runnings again and we bought some hay for the bunnies.  The check-out lady asked me what my cute puppy's name was and when I said Dhali, she said, "Oh, it's a girl!"  "No, it's a boy."  "Oh?"  "Yeah!  Like the Dali Lama...."  I don't think she knew who the Dali Lama was.  Whatever :P  I bet she won't forget Dhali's name!

Today we did lots of playing and running and playing and napping and some clicker training.

Tibby's labs came back with her Lymph elevated, but her thyroid was 3.8.  Which is normal?  I guess?  So I decided to start keeping a behavior journal.  Maybe I'm just paying attention to her when she is acting 'weird' and she's not acting like that all the time.  Also, as someone commented, maybe she's just that lazy type of Tibetan Terrier.  So far I can see that she acts strange in the evenings, but is pretty normal most of the day.  I think this is because of the baseball games in the stadium.  I put her Thundershirt on her and I could see a bit of a difference in her behavior.  She was willing to go outside with us again and wasn't running around in a panic.

She did play with me for a little while this afternoon.  The sad thing is that she acts like she is doing it just because I want her to, not because she wants to.  That seems weird, I know, but it's true. 

 I see a lot of differences between Tibby and Dhali.  I wonder if she would have been different if I'd brought her home when she was younger or if this is just Tibby.  Or if this is a girl TT thing?  Or ?

Dhali is such a little monster!  Wild and crazy and he gets into everything.  It's like having a 2 year old, but one that you can put in a pen when he needs a nap!  Tonight we played a race to a toy game.  Once he figured that out he loved it!  He also chased an skinny old black pipe that I found under a bush in the backyard.  He really wanted to catch that pipe!

But he can be very sweet and mature too.  Sometimes I forget that he's only 10 weeks (!) old. (still hasn't had a potty accident yet!) Last night he was laying in the living room chewing on a trachea for the longest time, just happy and entertaining himself.  Not bothering Tibby....she escapes from him sometimes onto the couch or the bed, but I've warned her that pretty soon he'll be able to get up there.  She might look at time in a crate in a different way.....
