1- Random old woman in the park with her 2 obese little dogs said to me, "Have you ever thought about taking her (Tibby) to obedience training?"
2- Different old woman at the downtown market stepped into Tibby's path and yelled, "Get! Get!" while she waved her arms around.
3- My Mom said she wasn't going to walk with us ever again, because Tibby doesn't know how to heel.

I would have to wonder, what was Tibby doing when the person suggested obedience classes?
And is it that Tibby doesn't heel perfectly, or does she weave in and out and around and make you and everyone else nearby trip over her or her leash?
That second lady sounds nutso. We have one that comes to one of our local parks who runs at dogs, screaming, flinging her arms around, who has been bit twice. I'd bite her too if she came at me like that...
Just ignore dumb people.....
And anyway, what's heel mean?
XXXOOO Daisy, kendra & Bella
Well, Tibby crossed in front of my Mom 4 times during a 2 hour walk. I didn't think that was too bad, since there were tons of distractions around - 3 of the times were because dogs ran out of their yards to see Tibby. The 4th time there was an old man hiding behind a tree watching us and Tibby couldn't figure out what he was doing.
The park woman was kind of embarrassing. She was talking and talking to me for 15 mins., and Tibby was being good even though there were the 2 fat dogs to play with, when suddenly Tibby jumped up on the the woman!
At the market Tibby was walking right beside me, not pulling, just being a nice polite dog. The woman was pretty much yelling 'get, get" at me too, because I was right there next to Tibby. It was so weird.
I KNOW Tibby needs more work, but it's just frustrating when EVERYONE is pointing it out all the time.
Poor Tibby - and poor you. Just ignore silly people. You two are doing your best and you'll be just fine.
Love and licks, Winnie
Well, it doesn't sound too bad to me. Honestly, the woman with the fat dogs probably only doesn't get jumped on by her own dogs because they are too fat to jump up.
And, there is no way any person would keep a dog in "heel" for two hours. It is a formal obedience exercise, not a way to enjoy your walk.
Maybe use a shorter leash or something, though, when walking with your Mom, so Tibby doesn't get a chance to cross in front of her? I walk my dogs on 4 foot leashes if we will be around people, so I have more control and can keep them closer.
Geez! Talk about some rude people!! What makes people think they can just talk to others like that? Like your dog is any of their business.
Now your mom, sorry, I won't get in the middle of family disputes. :) But I am sorry.
It can be so frustrating to hear stuff like that from people - and it must be especially frustrating for you because it's clear how committed you are to Tibby's training. Comments from strangers can be so irritating. I once had a lady at the dog park do a Cesar Millan "tssst" when Oscar came up to her dog to say hi. It was an off-leash park, and he didn't even do anything rude!
