Don't Need No Stinking Seatbelt

I bought a seat belt/harness for Tibby yesterday.  It lasted about 3 mins, before she started chewing on the CAR sealbelt - yes the NEW car!  I don't blame her, because the seat belt has a serious design flaw.  The package says that the dog will 'be able to freely sit, lie down and stand.".  I don't know how!  There is a strap across the back that is supposed to have the seat belt threaded through - then Tibby couldn't move AT ALL.  Not a happy Tibby.

"How dare you try to hold me down."

So we made a compromise.

With her bungee leash attached to the harness and the leash attached to a tie down behind the seat Tibby is secure, but she can move around (a little - enough).

Happier.

But not that happy....

Hey!  It's not THAT bad!

'Are we going for a car ride?  Or what!'

At least your seatbelt is cute. Mom and dad have made us ride in crates lately. No fun!

Looks like a good compromise...a girl's got to be able to move around and be comfortable.

All my dog's wear harnesses in the car and are seatbelted. Just not enough room for crates in our backseat! The seatbelt harness allow zero movement so I use the seatbelt attachment tabs. They permanently stay in the car and allow me to quickly clip dogs in. Sounds like you stumbled upon a fairy similar solution!

I just got Riley a seat belt a month or two ago. It's the Champion seat belt system and it allows her to move around some (like you said, "enough"). I leave the tether part of it permanently attached to a infant car seat hook or latch or whatever it is in my cargo area and just clip her in when she jumps in.

She got all tangled up the first 2 or 3 rides she took with it, but now she's figured out how to turn around with it on and untangle herself if she does get tangled.
